Postmodernism, "woke", Social Justice, all have had enormous influence in the modern world. Our University teaching has been influenced, our politics transformed, our society "awakened", But is it all good and how does the Amateur Christian relate?

Few Christians look to the writings of Karl Marx for inspiration, however if they did, they might find that he has a lot to say about attitudes to “human rights” today. The Amateur Christian has recently been reading about Marx and is interested in how his views might compare with Jesus’ teaching.

Should my speech be more offensive?
  •  13/07/2020 01:18 PM

We live in a world where hypersensitive members of minority groups (thats most of us) squeel at the first sign of offence. But as a Christian I am considering whether I should cause offence more frequently?

I have found the following  websites good resources when studying or preparing talks for use in church

Small Group Central - Great advice and resources for Home based groups - provided by CWR

Bible.org - Study the Bible by book or subject. Lots of free resources.

This Cultural Moment -  A series of podcasts featuring Mark Sayers who shares great understanding on   the current cultural situation in the west and how church may respond at this time. Very insightful. Remember to click on  podcasts icon.

Credo House - Great website full of informal Bible teaching given in a coffee shop location for Amateur Christians. You will learn lots from Blogs, Courses and Rants. Love it!

I always wanted to be a pro. You know, the sort of person who understood it all, was in control of all the facts and could clearly and fully answer any question asked of him.
I realised when I first asked Jesus to be my saviour as a young child that I had lots to learn but I hoped that in time, along with flying a fighter jet, playing cricket for England and scoring the winning goal in a World Cup Final, I would become a Pro Christian. It didn't happen. I remained an Amateur Christian.
After leading House Groups, around 20 Alpha courses and spending numerous hours in Leadership Team and Elders Meetings. After running Training courses in church on Sharing Faith, The Bible and numerous other topics I realised that I was approaching middle age (55) and still an Amateur Christian.
So, desperate measures. I ceased working for a living, started a Bible College Course, surely that would turn me into a pro? I met and befriended Bible experts with enormous brains and listened hard to what they said. But, I remained an Amateur Christian.
One thing I discovered along the way is that God loves Amateurs. Praise God, he loves me.
